Third annual contest – 2018
In only three years the Bike Building Competition at MotoMadrid has established itself as a benchmark for motorcycle professionals and customizers in Spain. In its first year 2016, the competition welcomed 15 competitors, but as of this latest competition, held on the 9th -11th of March this year, more than 70 bikes took part in the event. Both the quantity and quality of bikes have improved, highlighting a combination of ingenuity, technology, and knowledge of their builders.
EFZ Iron Choppers, from Almassora, Castellon, with their motorcycle named Lucky, handcrafted this work of art from scratch, starting from a Sportster XL 1000 engine. It was the overall winner of this year´s competition after winning first place in its Free Style category and having won out above the other first-place competitors from three other categories. The motorcycle Rock and Roll from the Old Custom Flames garage in Malaga won the Modified Retro category. Madrid´s own Valtoron garage won the Café Racer & Retro Vintage category with their bike La Impetuosa, while another of their bikes, Setenta y Siete (77), also won the Modified Harley category. Prizes were awarded valuing a total of 10,000 €, of which 3,000 € in cash went to EFZ Iron Choppers for their double win of category and best of show.
Second annual contest – 2017
From the 24th to the 26th of March, the second annual Bike Builders´ Contest was held at the Pabellon de Cristal, at Casa de Campo. The great success of the first year clearly demonstrated the neccesity to make same changes to the official contest rules. We increased the number of participants, established four categories (Free Style ,Retro/Modified, Harley- Davidson Modified, and Cafe Racer), and gave out more prizes.
The Best of Show award went to Kacerwagen, from Huelva. He competed in the Cafe Racer category with his motorcycle Pilo, created from the base of a Aprilia RSV 1000. More than 30 bikes participated in the contest this year (2017).
10.000€ in prized were awarded; 6,000€ in cash, and 4,000€ in gift vouchers were handed out at the event. First place in each of the four catagories received 1,000€ in prize money; second and third places received gift vouchers valued at 600€ and 400€ respectively. The best of show received 2,000€ in additional prize money, resulting in a total of 3,000€ for this year´s winner. Additionally, there where special awards given for Best Painwork and Best Staging.
The Jury was composed of: Fran Burguera , Technical Instructor of Automotives and Training Director from California Motorcycles, Pilar Gargoles, specialist journalist in the field of Custom bikes, Roberto Garcia-Monzon, architect, Head of Vehicles Design and Founder of Demonstener Garage, and Pepe Burgaleta, Director of La Moto Magazine, of Motorpress Iberica.
